Starting Out
There are a few things you need to do when getting started in Pigment.
The first thing you will need is your starting pokemon.
This pokemon should be a 1st stage or baby pokemon with no special traits. They will need a reference image, which can be any fullbody image of the pokemon, including official sprite if you wish.
Their reference should have either text in the image, or attached (such as a description on Deviantart or Buzzly, or information cells on something like Google Sheets) with the following information:
Name:
Species:
Gender:
Type:
Traits:
This information is used to keep track of your pokemon's basic information and every pokemon you get should have this information attached.
Then, you need to decide what Region you wish to start in.
You will be region locked until you beat the region's Elite 4 or equivalent, so make sure you know what you're getting into.
Every region has a region document which includes all of the region's locations, roll tables, and challenges like gyms and the Elite 4, so feel free to read through the region documents to decide which region you would most enjoy.
Currently the cannon region's region documents are a WIP, so are not yet available. Apologies for the inconvenience.
You may repeat this process however many times you want to create more trainers, but do not share progress, money, or items. See the Multiplayer page for information on transferring content between your own trainers using the trade system.

Locations
Routes
Routes feature roll tables that include encounters for items, wild pokemon, and trainers.
In normal play, you can choose to roll from any route in the region to roll from to interact.
Rolls should be a random number from 1-100, and then compared to the route's roll table to see your result.
Sometimes special routes or parts of routes will have a different name, often if they're a cave.
Some routes will also have location prompt that allows you to earn items, money, or pokemon.

Towns and Other Locations
Towns and other locations in the region will include various things to do.
Towns usually have a shop where you can buy useful items, and gyms are always found in towns.
Most towns and locations will include some form of location prompt for further interaction.
Typically, the starting town of a region will include the region's Pokemon Professor's Lab and a prompt to earn one of the region's starters to help you along the way.
Some towns and locations will include roll tables like the ones found in routes as well.

Progression
Gyms battles are different than standard training battles, they are completed by following a specific prompt which is unique to each gym. After completing the prompt, you earn the gym's badge. You must get all badges before moving on to the Elite 4 of the region.
The Elite 4 are a special set of challenges meant to test or grow your skills as an artist! The Elite 4 are similar to gyms in that they are specific special prompts, but the difference is that these prompts are meant to be challenging or drawn in a specific art style. However you only need to complete one of these challenging prompts to beat the Elite 4. After this, you can choose to move on to another region, or continue further in the current region as you please. Most regions will have post-Elite 4 content that gives access to new pokemon and items.
The region's champion is made to be even more challenging than even the elite 4, a test of your skills as an artist. After completing the champion's challenge prompt, you will gain access to the last of a region's content: Legendary Pokemon.
Some regions may have alternate names or roles that serve the same functions as above. These regions will indicate what these are as part of their region document. (Example Pokemon Sun and Moon didn't have the usual system)
